How to Make Strawberry Horchata

Strawberry Horchata

Growing up one of my favorite things to get at the Mexican supermarket was strawberry horchata. My mom wouldn’t always get me one but when she did I was one happy girl. It’s creamy and refreshing. I enjoyed every last sip of it. Then as I got older my mom showed me how to make it!

This refreshing drink is easy to make and a huge crowd pleaser. Perfect to make on a hot summer day or when you have family and friends over. I’ll go over some tips to make sure your strawberry horchata comes out perfect every time!

What is Strawberry Horchata?

Strawberry horchata is a creamy and sweet mexican drink that is made with rice, cinnamon and strawberries. It’s blended together with water and condensed milk it makes the best refreshing drink you’ll ever have!

Tips!

Make sure you let the rice soak in the water with cinnamon overnight. This step can not be skipped. The rice needs time to soften up. Yes, I have tried to skip this step before and what a huge mistake I made. So please, let it soak overnight.

Use a fine strainer to get any bits of rice or cinnamon that did not blend well. This ensures you have a nice creamy mixture. Ain’t nobody trying to sip on a refreshing drink and then find a piece of rice/cinnamon in their mouth. So keep calm and strain it!

When picking your strawberries make sure they are nice and ripe. Always wash and remove the stems before blending.

How to Make Strawberry Horchata

Ingredients

Rice mixture

1 cup long grain white rice

2 1/2 cups water

2 cinnamon stick

1 (12oz)  can of evaporated milk

Strawberry mixture

1 (14 oz) can of condensed milk

1 basket of strawberries

1 tbsp vanilla

4 cups of water

Directions:

In a bowl add the rice, water and cinnamon sticks. Cover with plastic and leave on the counter overnight to soak. This is an important step and can’t be skipped!

Take the soaked rice with the water and cinnamon sticks and place it in a blender. Blend on high until smooth and add the evaporated milk and give it one last blend.

Strain the rice mixture into a large pitcher and set aside.

Then add the strawberries, condensed milk, vanilla and water into the blender and blend until smooth.

Pour the strawberry mixture into the pitcher and stir. Add ice and sliced strawberries to the pitcher and it is ready to serve!

Of course there are many different ways to make strawberry horchata but this is hands down the best one you’ll ever make! If you’re having family or friends over you can make this a day ahead. Just don’t add the ice until 1 hour before serving.
