Watermelon Agua Fresca

What better way to cool down than with a cold glass of watermelon agua fresca?! It’s sweet, refreshing and everything you need in a drink. This is perfect to make during the hot months and it’s easy to make.

Watermelon is already a refreshing fruit but when you make it into this drink you’ll be wanting to make it all the time and it’s the perfect drink to make for your next summer gathering!

What is Watermelon Agua Fresca?

Agua fresca is a light fruit drink popular throughout Mexico. It’s simply made by blending fruit with water, a bit of sugar and a little lime juice. In this case the fruit used is watermelon. This is also known as Agua de Sandia.

How to Make Watermelon Agua Fresca (Agua de Sandía)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 of a Ripe Medium Watermelon, chopped
  • 4 cups Water
  • The juice of 1 Lime
  • 1 bunch of Mint, for garnish and place some in pitcher (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of simple syrup (more or less depending on how sweet your watermelon is)

Directions

  1. Fill a large pitcher with ice and set aside. Add watermelon to a blender and blend until smooth. About 2 minutes or so.
  2. Add the water in and blend again for 4 minutes.
  3. Using a large pitcher and a fine strainer, pour the watermelon mixture through the strainer that’s over the pitcher to catch the watermelon juice. Use a spoon to help the process go faster by moving the watermelon pulp around and allowing the juices to go through the strainer. Discard the watermelon pulp.
  4. Add the juice of 1 lime and simple syrup and give it a stir. Taste and make any adjustments with the simple syrup and water if needed.
  5. Lastly add some mint in the pitcher, giving it one last stir and it’s ready to serve!
  6. Serve over ice and garnish with mint if you’d like.

# Tips

Make sure you are using a ripe watermelon. You’re able to make the drink sweeter by the amount of simple syrup you put in but making sure you have a ripe watermelon will give you a great melon flavor.

If you have a small blender and everything won’t fit you can do this in batches.
